Come grow with us through Christ-centered teaching and community
On Sunday, September 28, 2025, Little Marsh joyfully celebrated 139 years of ministry and service. The celebration was highlighted by a powerful sermon delivered by our Bishop W. Darin Moore, Presiding Prelate of the Eastern North Carolina Episcopal District of the AME ZION Church who brought forth an inspiring word from Luke 5:1-4 entitled “Know What You’re Working With!”
What a glorious day in the Lord! Our 139th Homecoming at Little Marsh Chapel AME Zion Church was nothing short of a blessed worship experience. Hearts were lifted, spirits were renewed, and the presence of God filled the house. We were richly blessed by the powerful Word delivered by Bishop W. Darin Moore, Presiding Prelate of the Eastern North Carolina Episcopal District: “Know What You’re Working With” (Luke 5:1–4).
We were honored to host our beloved leadership:
Mrs. Devieta C. Moore, Missionary Supervisor
Rev. Dr. Chalmers McDougald, Presiding Elder, and Mrs. Alice McDougald
Rev. Dr. Peggy Owens, First Vice President of the Women’s Home and Overseas Missionary Society, and her family
A special thank you to our Pastor, Rev. Dr. Earlene M. Baggett, for her faithful leadership. This Homecoming was truly a heart’s work, and God’s light surely shined upon us today. Our souls burned with joy as we witnessed the manifestation of God’s presence throughout the service. A heartfelt thank you also to our faithful kitchen staff, who prepared a delicious meal that brought the body of Christ together in fellowship and love. Truly, Melodies of Faith rang out in our worship, our fellowship, and our hearts. We give God all the glory for this unforgettable celebration!
Finally, we extend our gratitude to Ms. Lindse Owens, who served as our photographer and beautifully documented this blessed moment for us.

Welcome to Little Marsh Chapel AME Zion Church! Through faith, fellowship, and the power of God’s Word and love, we seek to empower individuals and transform lives. Together, we can touch heaven and bring positive change to earth.

At Little Marsh Chapel AME Zion Church, we spread the message of peace and love through Jesus Christ. Rooted in faith, we are committed to evangelism, discipleship, community, liberation, and service. Guided by the call to “Touch Heaven to Change Earth,” we seek to bring hope, healing, and love to all. We endeavor “Love God with all our heart, with all our soul, and with our entire mind, and to love our neighbor as ourselves.”
The African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church professes the historical faith in God, who by Himself – outpouring, was manifest incarnate in Jesus Christ for our salvation. By God’s grace and the power of His Holy Spirit all believers become the new humanity. The incarnation having reached its completion in Jesus, who is the Christ, is continuing in the Church and is overcoming the calamity of the human predicament. We strive in the hope that the Church will grow from sinful existence through purification to oneness with God.
Our Heritage in doctrine and our present theological task demand that we renew our faith and understanding of the love of God, our Father, and the Lordship of His Son, Jesus. We believe that all who have faith in Him will be empowered and invigorated by the Holy Spirit to risk all for the reconciling work and fulfillment of the Kingdom of God.

The African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church was founded in 1796 in New York City, born from a desire for freedom, dignity, and equality in worship. Known as the Freedom Church, AME Zion has been a voice for faith and justice, producing leaders such as Sojourner Truth, Harriet Tubman, and Frederick Douglass.
Little Marsh Chapel carries forward this powerful legacy in our own community. From our beginnings as a gathering place for faith and fellowship, we have grown into a church family committed to nurturing spiritual growth, strengthening families, and serving as a beacon of hope. With hearts lifted to heaven and hands reaching out in service, we continue to live out our calling to “Touch Heaven to Change Earth.”
